It is my understanding that GNU Emacs cannot be built for MS-DOS,
thought it can be built on a 386 running other OSes. There are many
alternatives that come to mind, however, such as Freemacs and
MicroEmacs. I have directed follow-ups to comp.emacs, where you're
more likely to get more information.
