[comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc] TOUCHSTONE FDD TEST SYSTEM BUGS.

P.Dalliessi@massey.ac.nz (P.J. Dalliessi) (05/17/91)

ARE YOU USING "CHECK-IT" FLOPPY DRIVE TESTING SYSTEM? This product is
sold by TOUCHSTONE SOFTWARE CORPN. As I have a 4 drive PC/AT (2*5.25" &
2*3.5" drives) I purchased both versions. The 5.25" SPIRAL test disk works
fine as the drives are A & B, but when the SPIRAL test disk is used in
the 3.5" drives, which are C & D, the system "hangs' and the only way to
recover control is to re-boot.
After corresponding at length with TOUCHSTONE on this problem, they
finally admitted that this programme would not work with "non-standard"
drive configurations, i.e., any machine that has more than 2 FDD's is
considered "non-standard"!!! There must be 1000's of PC's out there with
3 or more FDD's. TOUCHSTONE are making very vague noises about altering
the software to overcome this problem, but they gave me the impression
they were not terribly interested. When you read the advertising material
put out by TOUCHSTONE on this product, it reads so convincingly as the
answer for comprehensive testing of FDD's...no mention of it's limitations.
Has anyone out there an answer to my problem? In the meantime I would
strongly advise prospective users of this TOUCHSTONE product not to buy
it until such time as they rectify what I consider to be a major defect.
