[comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc] Building 486 EISA system - help wanted

todd@vulcan.austin.ibm.com (05/21/91)

I'm thinking about building a 25 MHZ-486 EISA system. I want it
to have 8 MB memory and a 200 MB SCSI drive. So far I'm considering
a Mylex EISA motherboard and Adaptec 1542B adapter (EISA cards
are to expensive at the moment) along with a 200 MB Maxtor drive.
I'm also considering a Diamond SPEEDSTAR+ super VGA adapter.
I'm still looking around at monitors, any suggestions?

The other motherboard I've considered was an AMI 486 EISA but people
have told me to go with Mylex. Does anyone out there in netland
have any experience with these EISA motherboards? I've heard that
both are top quality but the Mylex was a cut above the AMI.
I'm also interested in hearing about any problems using the above
mentioned cards and/or better choices to consider.

Any suggestions, horror stories or good experiences will
be appreciated.

Thank you.
