WANTED: drivers/programs to add compression to 2400b modem for use on a remote unix system. In other words, compression for everything, not just file transfers. I recently started using 50 line mode, over my modem, but the screen updates are far too time consuming. A driver on the PC end seems to be not too difficult. The main problem would be on the unix end. I suppose a shell program of some kind could be written to intercept all output, pumping out a compressed form. An alternative would be a unix device driver, but these would not be user-installable. So: is such a system possible? is such a system available? Finally, I've seen the "uw" program. Do you think it would be easy to hack to add compression? Nothing else that I've seen posted to cbip or on simtel seems to come even close to what I would like. Cheers, and thanx in advance. -- Bj ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Brent J.
