[comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc] Norton Utilities' DISKREET and HIMEM.SYS. Clash

shephard@newsserver.sfu.ca (Gordon Shephard) (06/09/91)

I'm having HUGE amounts of trouble with Norton's Diskreet Program. (V.
5.0)

With a two line Config.sys consisting of:
device = c:\dos\himem.sys
device = c:\norton\diskreet.sys

and an Autoexec.bat consisting of
path = c:\dos;c:\norton;

Version 4.01 of MSDOS.

mem (and my own little programs) show 0 bytes available extended memory.
If I rem out the device = c:\norton\diskreet.sys line, I end up with
around 3538944 bytes available extended memory.

The /skipumb option seems to do nothing. (Note, the manual specifies it
as an option, and debug finds it inside diskreet.sys, but diskreet /?
doesn't show it as an option.)
The /nohma (this ones not in the Manual OR the diskreet /? listing, but
once again, can be found with debug inside diskreet.sys) leaves all my
memory free, but unfortunately eats up 52K conventional memory.

 Does anyone have a clue as to how I can get Norton to work properly?
 I.E. Load diskreet.sys without eating all of my extended memory.
