[comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc] Compression software/boards?

kudla@aix01.aix.rpi.edu (Robert J. Kudla) (06/14/91)

My boss has asked me to find out about data compression software and/or
hardware that will transparently run on our PS/2's to increase our storage
space. We mainly use the hard disks to store dbase files, 1-2-3
spreadsheets, and text documents. Our regular dealer, NYNEX/Computerland,
could only give us information on one solution which is software: "Cubit",
for 50 bucks. Can anyone tell me if this'll really help our space problem
without hurting performance *too* much? I'd think a compression hardware
system would be lots faster and possibly more efficient.

Any alternatives that you feel would be better will be welcome. In
addition, if your company markets one, send me contact info and specs or
whatever, so I can call you and have you send my boss a flyer or something.
We may eventually need a half dozen or so of these suckers.

Thanks in advance....
