[comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc] 8088 leading edge upgrade info

v092rezq@ubvmsb.cc.buffalo.edu (Morgan S Miran) (06/20/91)

i have an ibm pc compat of the leading edge type, and i was wondering how
expensive and difficult would it be to upgrade to at least a 286, maybe more....
i have :
extended video bios
640 online ram
2 5.25 drives
hard disk....20 megs

what would be the easiest way to make this com more viable
thanks

Problem with Leading Edges is that the motherboards and
power supplies (and therefore the cases) are not standard.
So to upgrade would mean to get the following:

286 baby AT motherboard $100
1 Meg RAM $ 50
Baby AT case $ 30
Power supply $ 30
Herc Card $ 20

Approx. $230

Add whatever you'd spend on a faster hard drive (if you
want one). Then sell your case, MB and power supply to
someone who needs one (you'll get at least $50 for it
I'll bet...)
