[comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc] Expanding the type-ahead buffer

tommie@Pacesetter.COM (Tom Levin) (06/22/91)

I used to use Fansi Console and really liked the increased type-ahead
buffer. Unfortunately, Fansi Console doesn't work on my new 386 box.

QUESTIONS:
	1. Is there a new version of Fansi Console for 386 machines?
(a lot of Fansi's abilities are not needed on 386 machines).

	2. How else can one get a larger type-ahead buffer? I've tried
	   a few TSR's which haven't worked.

The one I use comes from PC Magazine (via SIMTEL20):

Directory PD1:<MSDOS.PCMAG>
 Filename Type Length Date Description
==============================================
VOL9N08.ZIP B 36231 900411 PCMgEDITDEMO,PRINTCAL,SHOWEA,KBBUFFER,TYPEFAST
							      ^^^^^^^^

I've also found that HyperKey included in HyperDisk shareware (HYDK421)
works well. I will start using it when my registration comes, KBBUFFER must
be loaded into conventional memory, but HYPERKEY can live in UMBs.

Hope this helps - Jim, AD1C

Another one to check out is VISITYPE, available for anonymous FTP from
wuarchive.wustl.edu:/mirrors/msdos/keyboard/visitype.arc. It makes
type-ahead work very nicely.
