I received my AIR-ROM for the Commodore 64 yesterday, and was up very late copying a variety of previously un-copiable RTTY stations. The AIR package seems to work pretty well. My only quibbles so far are that its Autostart is too stingy in my estimation, and that it doesn't seem to remember what Baudot speed had been set prior to going into ASCII mode. When you come back into Baudot mode, you need to reset the speed if you want something other than 60WPM. However, I have now experienced having a computer in the ham shack for the first time. The C64 seems to produce incredible amounts of noise, which the receiver (an HQ-180) picks up over the entire spectrum (or at least the part that I listened to last night). I am looking for advice on how to quiet it down. Your personal experiences or references to QST articles would be much appreciated. Thanks!! Bruce (K1FFX)
