[comp.os.msdos.apps] dBASE feedback sought, resources listed

tomr@ashtate (Tom Rombouts) (07/25/90)

Greetings DOS netlanders! I work in product development at Ashton-Tate,
makers of dBASE III+, dBASE IV, Framework, MultiMate, etc. To help get
this new news group going, I am offering to hear input from anyone
regarding microcomputer database products. I will also attempt to handle
simple support questions, but if there are too many I might have to
refer some to our support or customer service numbers. (Which appear below.)
Note also that several of our programmers monitor comp.databases, and
technical questions regarding things such as data formats can be posted
there.

Things I need your input on:

What you like/dislike about dBASE vs. other micro DBMS products
The importance (if any) of cross platform development to you
The use of ad hoc vs. "canned" query methods
What you will need from future micro databases
Plain old DOS vs. OS/2, *NIX, or other alternatives

(There are a number of other well-publicized issues regarding Ashton-Tate
that I, being a lowly techie, unfortunately have no control over and can
not even really comment on or respond to. I am sincerly trying to help
advance micro DBMS technology, not fill this group with flame wars. :-) )
