I am looking for a vt220/320 terminal emulator for PC's. It will be
used for connection to an online database by fairly novice users. If
possible i would like to have some sort of pop-up/resident terminal.
It is important that full (or close to full) ISO Latin 1 support is
provided. Does anyone know of such a program ? Do have any experience
using a PC as part DOS/PS2 machine and part terminal ?
I will appreciate any advise or experience you would like to share.
Thank you!

Since novice users will be using it, it would be a good idea to write a user interface using the kermit command language. I have my own menu based initialization file for the computers I log onto. It also works well on ethernet. So you don't have to use a comm port but go directly through the LAN. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Paul Schmidt UUCP: rti!tijc02!pjs269 706 Judith Drive PHONE: +1 615 283 0084 Johnson City, TN 37604

I use two such programs - one is Kermit 3.0, which I had to modify a bit to handle translations between ISO 8859/1 (Latin-1) and our national code page (CP 861). Those using CP 865, CP 863 CP 850 or CP 437 can use it without modifications. It is free, but not a pop-up/resident program. I also use the Telnet program (from Sun's PC-NFS). It is a pop-up resident program, but probably not what you requested. It does not handle ISO 8859/1 without modifications, so I had to patch it a bit to add the character-set translations. -frisk -- Fridrik Skulason University of Iceland | Technical Editor of the Virus Bulletin (UK) | Reserved for future expansion E-Mail: frisk@rhi.hi.is Fax: 354-1-28801 |
