[comp.os.msdos.apps] PC/TeX-386, extended memory, Windows

ajayshah@aludra.usc.edu (Ajay Shah) (09/25/90)

(Running on a 386 box with 4M of RAM)

Tex needs 1.3M of contiguous extended memory to run (Phar Lap
Extender). How do I make it coexist with (say) smartdrv.sys? If
I just load smartdrv.sys in config.sys, tex doesn't like it,
saying he doesn't find 1.3M of contiguous extended memory to live
in (and he's right, I guess). The answer would be to get
smartdrv.sys (and ramdrive.sys too, ideally) use memory further
up in high memory.. is this possible?

Has someone written a device driver which merely takes up memory
at config-time but fools applications into thinking they have
clean space?

How does one get Windows 3 to show an application 1.3M of
extended memory?

Thanks,

	-ans.

[about some difficulties with PC TeX/386]

PC TeX offers excellant phone support as part of the package.
Call them up. The number is on the box (if you got the package
through a local site license, find out who's the site rep and
have _them_ call up Personal TeX). This sort of support is half
the point of _buying_ a version of TeX. Take advantage of it.
