[comp.os.msdos.apps] How to put comm programs in 80x25 text mode ???

dsims@uceng.UC.EDU (david l sims) (12/18/90)

Sorry for the repost. The expiration date was wrong.

Before I download a few megabytes of terminal program documentation over my
1200 baud modem, I thought I'd ask first.

What PC terminal programs let you use the full 25 lines of the screen for
displaying text that comes from, say, a BBS? (I don't want to see the status
line at the bottom of the screen. I want to be able to make use of that line.)
Also, I'd like to know if you can make the terminal program send "real"
keyboard scan codes to the BBS. For instance, hitting "alt-x" should send the
two bytes of scan codes to the BBS, not ask the user if "he really wants to
exit the terminal program."

I understand that some programs will let you switch back and forth between
"real" keyboard scan codes and interpreting the alt and F keys as commands
and macros. Also, I would expect these programs to be able to switch back and
forth between full screen 25 line mode and whatever their default mode is
(usually 24 lines plus a status line on the bottom).

Does Procomm, Telex, Boyan, Qmodem, Pibterm, GT Power, and whatever else
you can think of allow this sort of thing? Please interpret this article as a
request for an informal poll, and I will post the results.

Poll:

o What is the name of the terminal program:
o What command sequence puts it into 25 line mode:
o What command sequence sends "real" keyboard scan codes for F keys,
   alt keys, etc:

Thank you. Please send your replies to dsims@uceng.uc.edu. I will summarize....

RBcomm, available on SIMTEL20 as PD1:<MSDOS.MODEM>RBCOMM32.ZIP or CS.CMU.EDU
in /afs/cs/user/ralf/pub (change *directly* there) as rbcomm32.zip.

}o What command sequence puts it into 25 line mode:

It's always in 25-line mode.

}o What command sequence sends "real" keyboard scan codes for F keys,
} alt keys, etc:

You load a keyboard binding (included) which sets up all the keys to send
the appropriate two bytes. Alt= quotes the following keystroke to allow
you to access the program commands.

More info: ANSI/VT102, VT52, and ANSI-BBS/AVATAR emulations, 132-column
support, keyboard macros, DESQview-aware, supports arbitrary screen sizes,
runs in as little as 41K (65K with DSZ for file transfers including Zmodem
autodownload), and is freeware (send me a postcard if you like it).
