The older HP Deskjet and HP Deskjet+ used water-soluable ink.  The new HP
Deskjet 500 uses non-water soluable ink.  Cartridges containing
non-water-soluable ink for the older Deskjet models are also available from
HP.

  Actually, the old ink cartridges used the water-soluable ink, whereas 
the new cartridges use the non-soluable ink. The new cartridges are usable
on *all* models of the DeskJet, not just the 500.
