[comp.os.msdos.apps] Ventura 2.0

snowden@sequoia.cray.com (Jim Snowden) (02/07/91)

I am trying to run Ventura 2.0 under MS DOS 4.01 with a VGA monitor.
I have cut down the FILES= and BUFFERS= entries in config.sys to the
lowest I can (15,10 respectively), and this only just gives
enough room for Ventura to run. The Professional extension won't
go at all, even with /A=31 in the vpprof.bat file.

There isn't anything else in config.sys; the only other thing taking
up memory is MOUSE.COM.

I have extended memory (1408 Kbytes) and can make EMS memory
available with a driver (EMM.SYS). But that driver nicks away
such a big chunk of normal memory that Ventura won't even load to
be able to use the EMS memory.

Please could someone give me some advice on how to make more
memory available to VP. Is there some memory manager program that
can make Ventura run in the extended memory area (windows??). I have
a 286 PC. Thanks for your help!!

Ventura has its own mouse driver. So if you configure Ventura for you
mouse you should be able to remove the mouse driver MOUSE.COM. This
should free up enough memory.

PS. Please forward any other replies you get via mail (i will see the
ones in News) to me. Thanks.
