Ok here goes I've explained this to many persons so anyone who has a good answe r please e-mail me! I never had this problem before...... I installed Qualitas 386max and if I have PCtools (for sure) or maybe Sidekick (could possibly cause the same problem but I don't use it enough to see) The ke yboard will exibit some really screwy things for example: Randomly the keyboard thinks that the leftshift is depressed, It will give capi tols includong <>!@@#$%#$@:*& unlike the caps lock. If I press and release the left shift it fixes it for about 15 minutes (regardless if I ever use the shift or not) Also the non-keypad cursor keys will sporatically produce 8,4,6 or 2 a s if they were numberpad cursor keys with the numlock on. This doesn't happen if Pctools is removed but It did happen with sidekick insta lled (but I'm not sure PCTools wasn't installed at the same time) I spoke with both PCtools and Qualitas tech support and Q. claimed they never h eard of it but suggested that it was a bug in Pctools and *of course* not them. Pctools said that he had been *personally* researching this *phenomina* and fou nd it to be certain memory managers in combination with certain keyboards with certain TSR's ANy real help would be greatly appreciated /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\ BBB CCCC D B B T C C D EEE BBBB OO R RRR N NN TTTT OO C OO DD D E E B B O O R NN N T O O C O O D DD EEEE B B O O R N N T O O C C O O D DD E BBBB OO R N N TT OO CCCC OO DD D EEEEE Luck is directly proportional to how hard one works. I recently got 386max..... I have been using Pctools without much problem (except memory usage) until I in stalled 386max.. Here is the problem...... The keyboard, randomly and unreproduceably thinks the leftshift key is depresse d, depressing the leftshift and releasing it will resolve the situation for a w hile. OR while using the non-keypad cursor keys, again randomly, and unreprod uceably will think they are 4,8,6 or 2 respectively. To add insult to injury, pctools tech support acknowledges the problem but clai mes that it has to do with combinations of Items and that sidekick would produc e the same results. Qualitas on the othere hand denies any knowledge of the si tuation and suggests that the problem belongs to Pctools or the keyboard. Any suggestions, solutions etc... would greatly be appreciated.... ----------------- B O R N T O C O D E ! Turns out the problem was with Compaq's CACHE.EXE (I am using Compaq DOS 4.01). The utilities that come with the DOS (cache, expanded mem manager, etc) are *totally* incompatible with any non-Compaq bios. I had all sorts of problems (lockups, funny keyboard behavior esp the shift keys). Are you using any proprietry DOS not for that machine? Also, if your machine is a true-blue 386 then use BlueMax instead of 386Max. /******************************************************************************* ** Craig D. I am using Pheonix MS-DOS and I have an award bios. I do not have anything even close to a True Blue .... ----------------- B O R N T O C O D E !
