[comp.os.msdos.apps] Software To Teach Typing Wanted

mbarua@hpsal2.cup.hp.com (Mihir Barua) (05/22/91)

I am in need of a typing program. So far the only software of this
type (pun intended!!) that I have been able to locate is something called
Typing Teacher. Apparently this is a fairly effective/effecient tool.
However I am in search of all possible alternatives. If any of you have any
information or comments on Typing Teacher or any other (Learn How To) Type
software I'd appreciate hearing from you. Thanks in advance.

Mihir Barua

PS The machine of choice is an HP VECTRA (no surprise here ;^)) if it matters.

There are a few MsDos games that can serve as typing tutors. There
are at least typevade.exe in /pc/ts/tsbmeb14.arc by yours truly, and
/pc/games/typdr11.zip and typefast.zip by Dave Tutelmal.

"The wares are available by anonymous ftp from garbo.uwasa.fi,
Vaasa, Finland, 128.214.12.37, or by using our mail server (use the
latter if, and only if you don't have anonymous ftp). If you are
not familiar with anonymous ftp or mail servers, I am prepared to
send prerecorded instructions on request. (If you don't get the
instructions from me within a few days, it will mean that your email
address cannot be reached by a simple email reply. It that case,
contact your system manager for devicing a proper mail path for you,
because unless you do, you wouldn't be able to utilize the mail
server anyway. If you are in North America first consider using an
ftp site near you to spare the overseas load.)"

I'm an avid supporter of "Mavis Bacon Teaches Typing". It costs about
$49.95. It uses awesome graphics, for example showing your hand and
finger positions on the keys as you type, in addition to a game-like
car race course event in which you type words. It displays statistics
on how well you are doing using bar graphs, percentages, etc.
