All you Brass Pounders out there, please help! What type of keys/keyers/paddles do you like? I've been using a J-38 straight key for years, and also an old Heathkit HD-1510 keyer. But now, having used a friend's Bencher for a few weeks, I'm ready to look for a better key! Both the Bencher and the Vibroplex Iambic look like fine choices, and both are about the same price. But each has its strengths and weaknesses. I will eventually try both, side by side... but until I can (there's no Vibroplex dealer in Austin) I would welcome your comments and recommendations! 73, Ed Edward Sparks, WA5ZEG KVUE-TV Austin, TX (sparks@kvue.uucp) {asci1,ihnp4,seismo,gatech,harvard,ctvax,ucbvax}!ut-sally!kvue!sparks

Since I only received my license again in August, I can't give you much of a recommendation on paddles, but I thought I would mention that I just built an 8044 keyer from scratch. My wife gave me a Meisel Music paddle for Christmas so that's what I am using right now. I am sure that it may not be as good as the Bencher or Vibroplex, but I got a good price on it! One thing is for sure--it does beat my J38 and old bug that I once used! Hope to catch you on CW someday. 73, Jim N0GLP Hewlett Packard St. Louis

I am also using the Hi-Mound key from Meisel Music, but I think it is better than the Vibroplex which it replaced. Beautiful construction, and much better price. Also it is a twin paddle, squeeze keyer, whereas the old vibro keyer was not iambic. Vibroplex does make a n iambic model now, however.

I'm not much of a CW type (just ask some NCCC guys :-), but I love my Bencher. Can't say enough good things about it performance wise, and it looks good too. -- ***dan {allegra, astrovax, princeton}!fisher!djl The misplaced (That car sure is rusty!) Californian
