Installation: Unidentified disk problem copying to shell/help disk; disk apparently had a few bad sectors. Display got messed up; this error apparently didn't occur during beta testing. Running: DOSSHELL doesn't work (no error at invocation, system hangs, reboot time) (installation problem mentioned above may be causing this, but I don't know how). FDISK gives incorrect numbers for disk free space on physical drive c: extended partition. Windows can't find most program files in either extended or real modes. It does find EXCEL and WINWORD. Other: No mention made of how to get MSDOS 5.0 Technical Reference Manual. Overall: Looks pretty good. -- David Feustel, 1930 Curdes Ave, Fort Wayne, IN 46805, (219) 482-9631 EMAIL: feustel@netcom.com or feustel@cvax.ipfw.indiana.edu

Having seen the dos 5 shell program, I think I like the Mi Shell better (of course Mi costs extra, but I already had it...). -- David Feustel, 1930 Curdes Ave, Fort Wayne, IN 46805, (219) 482-9631 EMAIL: feustel@netcom.com or feustel@cvax.ipfw.indiana.edu

Am I the only one that is appalled by the color schemes the DOS 5 shell sticks you with? I can't stand a bright white background, and the only three color selections which don't have one are all monochrome (two of which have a gray background and the third is dim gray on black--yech). Considering its size, it is lacking in features as well (the PC Tools shell totals about 50% more program bytes, but has at least five times as many features). On the other hand, the DOS "shell" I use by far the most is 4DOS.... -- {backbone}!cs.cmu.edu!ralf ARPA: RALF@CS.CMU.EDU FIDO: Ralf Brown 1:129/53 BITnet: RALF%CS.CMU.EDU@CARNEGIE AT&Tnet: (412)268-3053 (school) FAX: ask DISCLAIMER?
