[comp.os.msdos.apps] Gotcha with Borland C++ installation and MS-DOS 5.0

oneel@heawk1.gsfc.nasa.gov ( Bruce Oneel ) (06/17/91)

I re-installed BC++ after I had installed MS-DOS 5.0 and i found a
small problem. I have a 286 with 2.5meg and I run the protected mode
versions of the compiler and such. After I re-installed BC++ I
couldn't get tkinst to run. It kept failing with "A20 already
enabled" messages. After thinking about it I remembered that I had
HIGH=DOS (or is it DOS=HIGH) in my config.sys. I took that out,
rebooted, and the installation ran fine. I also installed td286 at
the same time and it installed fine. I put the HIGH=DOS back in and
things are back to normal.

The result? tkinst (and maybe td286ins) don't work with HIGH=DOS but
td286, bcx, tlinkx, etc. work just fine with HIGH=DOS.
