[comp.os.msdos.apps] Dos5.0 and Keydict

bchen@yoyodyne.WPI.EDU (Bi Chen) (06/18/91)

I bought and installed DOS5.0 on passed weekends. Dos5.0 is certainly
a great product compared to it's preceder 4.01. The Window seems to
run a little bit faster and smoother. I used to run the DOS4.01 and
the QEMM386 and the Windows together without any problem in terms of a
few TSR I used with that configration. But one of my most important
TSR, the keydictionary, is unable to run under it's swaped mode. No
matter whether the HIMEM and dos=high is used or not. It will hold the
system after the first hot key pressed. (I don't not load the TSR into
UMB) If I load it in ordinary mode, it works fine but that beast takes
100K in conventional memory which is totally unacceptable to anyone.
Besides if I uninstall it from memory, itself uninstalled eventhough
it does not release the memory to the system and I could not load it
again. Loadfix does not help too.

One may always blame that the TSR may use some undocument dos features
which may not be supported by DOS5.0 any more. At mean time I try to
contact the vender I bought the TSR from to see it has any upgrade for
DOS5.0, that also leaves me wondering how many upgrades do I have to
purchased to let DOS5.0 works with old stuffs while they worked
gracefully with the illy fated DOS4.01 (Though the Share vilation
seems to be solely problem to me when I use my only wordprocessor
- Latex under the window as a task switch.)
