We use DOS 4.01 because our software has to work on it. It was a mean surprise to find that code developed on DOS 3.3 blew up on DOS 4.01. Almost all new machines come with 4.01. The end user does not want to hear excuses about bugs due to a new version of DOS--they want the program to work! Other than that, DOS 4.01 has been very reliable for us. I noted in my DOS 3.21 manual, it says "Portions copyrighted by Compaq", NOT IBM. Many of the bugs in DOS 4.00 were blamed on IBM. But does the 4.00 manual say "Portions copyrighted by IBM"? Is DOS 4.01 distributed by Compaq? __________________________________________________________________________ This article is posted for discussion only.
