[comp.os.msdos.misc] Object file format

coxs@itsgw.rpi.edu (Sean Cox) (09/18/90)

Does anyone know where I can find documentation for the object file
format for MS-DOS? I'm not looking for something to "read" the object
file, I need something to tell me how to make one.
    Thanks in advance!

                                            -Sean

The MSDOS Encyclopedia has under Part E: Programming Tools, Article 19
an article on the structure of obj modules. This description is the
Microsoft spec.

If there are any more complete specs(Intel) and/or descriptions I would
also be interested.

Can some one give the Publisher, author etc for the 'MSDOS
Encyclopedia'. I would like to get hold of such a book but need to
know more in order to buy it.

The file "books" in my comp.sys.ibm.pc archives contains as much
bibliographic information as I've been able to gather about this book,
as well as any other book anybody's ever mentioned in
comp.sys.ibm.pc.whatever. It also comes with mini-reviews (basically,
excertps of any articles that say anything vaguely substantial about
any book).

It is written by Ray Duncan and published by Microsoft Press.
The ISBN is 1556151748.

You can find the .obj file format in the MS-DOS Programmer's Reference.
I have the Reference for 3.20, and it is found in chapter 7. I'm sure you
will find it also in the references for 3.30 or 4.01, but maybe in other
chapters.

Since you're in NZ, it will be Penguin in (I think) Auckland.
