[comp.os.msdos.misc] Change "hide"-flag from the DOS prompt.

etxbjk@solsta.ericsson.se (Bjorn Karlsen TX/DKI) (11/06/90)

How can I change the "Hide"-flag from the DOS prompt?

By using ATTRIB, I can change the "Archive"- and "Read Only"-flags,
but not the "Hide"-flag.

The problem is that some users have hided their AUTOEXEC.BAT and
CONFIG.SYS. And without bringing a program with me (Quick Disk,
PC-TOOLS etc.), I'm not able to access those files for editing.

Post or mail answers.

Thanks in advance

True. ATTRIB wont change the hide attribute of a file. Use eg ATTR
in /pc/pd2/cpcug.zip instead.

The wares are available by anonymous ftp from chyde.uwasa.fi, Vaasa,
Finland, 128.214.12.3, or by using our mail server (use the latter
if, and only if you don't have anonymous ftp). If you are not
familiar with anonymous ftp or mail servers, I am prepared send
prerecorded instructions on request. (If you don't get the
instructions from me within a few days, it will mean that your email
address cannot be reached by a simple email reply, and you wouldn't
be able to utilize the mail server anyway.)

If I remember the original message, he implied that he already had a
program that would perform the unhide function but didn't want to carry
around the disk with the program on it. I think he was just looking for a
way to do it with DOS. I would say that the answer is no, you will have to
use a seperate program.
