I have a GRiD Compass laptop that has ANSI.SYS "built-in." It runs "pure" MSDOS software, but it is not hardware-compatible with IBM PCs and clones. For example, it will run the ANSI version of Micro EMACS, but not the IBM version. It runs Vanilla SNOBOL4, but not regular SNOBOL4, and so on. Are there programs that can somehow "grab" software actions going directly to the hardware and reroute them though ANSI.SYS? I realize this would slow down the operation of the machine, but it would increase the utility of the computer greatly. I would like to find a vanilla interpreter/compiler for any common language, especially C. I would also like to find a word processor and/or data base program.
