I've been running Compaq Dos 3.31 for a couple of years now so that I can use > 32M partition sizes. I understand most 4dos versions also support large partitions sizes. The main reason I've done this is because my backup software works on a partition at a time and my tape drive is still bigger than the whole disk (8mm HST). We now have several hundred Mb of files on some of our DOS machines much of it comprised of multi megabyte applications & their support files. I'm considering repartitioning them into one large C: drive so as to dispense with the "Letter- colon" syntax in the filename space. It seems this would make things easier.... I've never thought hard about the tradeoffs, other than some of the less robust utilities I've used choke on partitions > 32M. I'd appreciate comments on the tradeoffs between having a few or many disk partitions under DOS. Just what's the point of complicating the filename space into a "device" part?
