I apologize if anyone thinks the newsgroups I'm posting to are inappropriate; I only found one group dealing with uucp, and this is for msdos. If you can come up with a better newsgroup(s) that I should post this to, please let me know. Does anyone have experience setting up news under UUPC (UUCP for IBM PCs and compatibles running MSDOS)? I've been able to successfully receive articles from a remote site, but I have no newsreader or administration programs. I've been unable to figure out what RNEWS (supplied with the UUPC package) does; I assume it is equivalent to RMAIL which is the equivalent of sendmail or smail etc.--it is supposed to be run by the UUIO (equiv. to uucico) program. I'm looking particularly for a MSDOS port of rn or nn or some other decent newsreader. I also would like pointers to reference material (There's probably an RFC about this; what's the number and where can I get the text?) on news adminstration and protocols (how do newgroups and rmgroups work, for example). I'm not above writing some of the programs myself for this, but I would like to know where I can get the necessary information to do so. Thanks in advance for your help. Please send followups to comp.mail.uucp as I do not read comp.os.msdos.misc (too high volume for me). -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------ William R.
