I'm familiar with the obvious method - SF> running Unix on the pc - but that leaves some difficulty (to say the SF> least) in getting to dos applications. I suspect there are dos-based SF> solutions to this problem (don't some bbs's run in dos environments?), SF> but I'm not familiar with them. There are many BBS's running on dos based machines. (more dos than Unix if I'm correct). If you are just looking at a way to run anything from remote on your computer, I recommend getting a copy of the shareware program DoorWay 2.12 by Marshall Dudley. It is a program which will allow you to run any program from a remote site through a null-modem or and com port at any baud by making use of ANSI escape sequences. It does handle direct screen writes correctly. The doorway program comes with a simple ho st which asks for a name and password, and drops to a doorway dos shell if it is correct. As for other software, I haven't found anything better. Doorway will work if the remote is non-ansi, but not too well. Look for it on local dos bbs's around your area.
