Call letters in the form KA4993 are mobile-only licenses issued up until a couple of years ago, presumably when they ran out of numbers. For example, our fire department has three sets of call letters: KGE609 -- Base station only at station #1 KIT823 -- Base station only at station #2 KC7766 -- All mobiles and portables at both stations. This was required because the licensee name is the same on all licenses. Mobile-only licenses issued recently have five digits instead of four, and I can't remember offhand whether there are two, three, or four letters in front. Recent Base-only and Base-Mobile licenses are of the form KNxx000 -- four letters beginning with KN, followed by three digits. -- Bob Hoffman, N3CVL {allegra, bellcore, cadre, idis, psuvax1}!pitt!hoffman Pitt Computer Science hoffman%pitt@csnet-relay
