[comp.os.msdos.misc] NEEDED: "prune & graft" utility

dsims@uceng.UC.EDU (david l sims) (02/26/91)

I checked at wuarchive.wustl.edu, but couldn't find a shareware or pd program
that does a "prune & graft" -- that is, enable me to 'pick up' any directory
tree on my hard disk and 'put it down' somewhere else in the directory tree.

Does anyone know of such a beast? Many thanks in advance.

Well, you could always use XCOPY to just copy the subtree. It's not elegant,
I know, and it takes a lot of space and time, but it works.

wuarchive DOES have such an utility, it is hidden in the file:
mirrors/msdos/pcmag/vol9n12.zip
That archive contains a bunch of utilities, among which PRUNE.
PRUNE does exactly what you described, neither more nor less.

Check out PC/Tools version 6.0. Besides prune and graft, you get lots of
other useful utilities for the bucks. (Backup program, DOS shell,
UNDELETE/UNFORMAT, etc. etc.) Each of the individual utilities is always
rated near the top of the heap when compared to software written just
to perform the same function.

I am not sure of any Shareware Utilities that will do what you ask but
XTREE PRO or Magellan will move whole directory tree structures.

There is a file handler called QDOS III from Gazelle Systems that will do
exactly what you asked for and more. I am currently beta-testing it. It
may not be out until April. Contact me by email for details and avail-
ability.
