I have a question for the DOS 5.0 beta testers on the net. Will DOS 5.0
solve the problem of the 127 character path length limit imposed on us
up to and including MS DOS 4.01?

I doubt it. Looks like the stupid rule is going to stick. Try shortening
the names of your directories.
