I have a PHILIPS PC at home and I'm having a lot of troubles from with an hardware defect or a virus. I've the doubt 'cause I tried to identify the virus with scanv77 and it didn't find anything out (btw I've booted from a sure "clean" disc). The problem come after some time that I work with a work processor (in this case ClearSoft's ClearText) and does display random char (control only) on the screen. The problem does not come only with the WP, but with other programs, too. The displayed chars aren't as random as I said, 'cause they allway begin with a long sequence of small hearts, and the following have some rules, too, because the WP allways ends his operation in the same state. The only way to stop the problem is by pressing the ctrl-Break key. This stop the problem, but the most times it is too late, 'cause some deadly code has allready been send... As I said I tried everything to identify a possible virus, but it don't seem to be. My configuration is : Philips '286 with 640k / ALPS 2.13 BIOS, EGA adapter (GENOA chip set), modem (but the problem does not come from here), 20 Mb HD drive (set up as TYPE 2), DOS 3.3, 1.2Mb DD, and serial/parallel adapter. Hope that somebody can help me to find out what the problem could be. And don't forget that: "No problem is so big or so complicated that it can't be run away from..."

Check to see if the program is using ansi.sys, and if so make sure you load it in your config.sys file. This was a problem with the pc hack games. Just a guess ... -Chuck
