[comp.os.msdos.misc] I want an SMTP daemon for MS-DOS

jrv@demon.siemens.com (James R Vallino) (05/31/91)

I have been looking high and low for an SMTP daemon (TSR) program to run on
my PC so that I can receive mail. I'll consider commercial or public domain
software. So far I have not found anything. The PC mail products which I
have seen all require a mail server to be set up. We use the Wollongong
products here for TCP connectivity and they only provide a mail sender
program.

Any leads would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

We use Sun Microsystem's PCNFS and Lifeline Mail products. It not only
provides an SMTP daemon for MS-DOS but also allows mounting of network
file server disks and print spooler sharing. The Lifeline mail is a
nice screen-oriented mail tool for sending and receiving mail on the PC.
It also supports multiple folders.

Hope this helps.

FTP Software also has a full featured tcp/ip including
smtp, mail, lpr etc. for DOS.
