i know i'll be flamed for this in a big way but here are some q's: (1) in TRSDOS (that was for the original Radio Shack Model 1 ~ 1977) the directory / FAT was stored in the middle of the disk and files were stored outward from the center. this sped disk access because the head would never have to travel more than 1/2 the size of the disk. this seems MUCH more logical than the MSDOS method. (2) TRSDOS was only 5K! Granted, it wasn't much but the idea of putting the less often used commands in overlay files seems logical. i once figured about 1/2 - 2/3 of the DOS commands could have been put in overlays without any problem. that's it. flame away.
