I have a *real* old IBM AT (6MHZ) that I don't want to throw away just yet.
I'd really like to put in a good 386 motherboard and use all my existing
equipment, but I can't quite decide which motherboard to choose (and which
hardware to replace for 386 needs). I'm familiar with a lot of clone
motherboards, but I wanted to test the water and see what other
suggestions I got. I'm going to do some Windows programming
on this AT, so the faster the better. My 386SX using Windows is a little
slow, so I'm leaning towards a regular 386 motherboard.
My question: Has anyone recently upgraded their AT with great success
(and without costing a pretty penny)? If so, can you send me some
details via E-MAIL? Any hints would be appreciated before I junk the
AT and buy a 386 clone.
P.S. Current AT hardware: 512k memory (128k chips)
EGA video/monitor
251-1 Seagate 40MB hard drive
5 1/4" HD disk drive
