[comp.os.msdos.misc] What are DOS 5 Extended errors

rubin@visual1.jhuapl.edu (Don Rubin) (06/20/91)

I have DOS 5 up on a machine or two and am in
general pretty pleased. I just tried to do a
DOS FC (file compare) and got the message

"Extended error 2"

When I format a virgin 1.2mb floppy on one
machine I get Extended error 4 but it formats
find on the other machine.

Maybe I missed something but where are these
errors documented. I didn't see anything in
the DOS 5 book.

Thanks in advance... Don Rubin rubin@visual1.jhuapl.edu

I was wondering when the complaints about this would start. It appears that
Microsoft has completely omitted the section on messages that used to always
appear in the manual. Their Windows documentation is equally deficient.
Presumably Microsoft thinks that Windows and DOS messages are, in some way,
self documenting. I think it's time to send them a few rockets.
