[comp.os.msdos.misc] UNIX/Toshiba Tape Backup

rdippold@cancun.qualcomm.com (Ron Dippold) (06/22/91)

We're looking for a system whereby we can take the data from portable
computers in the field, offload it, bring it back to the office, and
analyze it on the Suns. We're talking about large amounts of data
(600 mb per day). The Toshibas we're using in the field have a full-length
slot available.

Here's the scenario:
  1) Collect a lot of field data with the portables
  2) Bring the portables to one or two collection points
  3) Attach the device to the portable (which already has the card installed)
  4) Dump the data to the tape (or removable media, or whatever)
  5) Bring the removable media to the office
  6) Dump the data to a PC and then FTP it to a Sun
     or
  6) Dump the data from the tape directly to a Sun
  7) Analyze the data

If anyone is using a system they'd like to reccomend, or if you are a
representative of a company that does something like this, I'd like to hear
about it. E-Mail and I'll summarize, or if you're really hot to sell a bunch
of them you can call me at (619)597-5528.
