[net.ham-radio] Best End-fed Antenna for 40 Meters ?

Is there a particular type of end-fed antenna that performs better than
others on 40 meters ?  XYL-imposed aesthetics dictate I use an end-fed
antenna, and the random horizontal wire I put up is a marginal performer
at best, even with a resonant counterpoise. . . .
