[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] hard cards

I own an xt clone with 2 soft disk drives. I would like to upgrade to
a hard disk (30 to 40mb). Given the high prices here, I would like to
bring a hard disk with me from the states (or ship one). I am told
that I can install a hard card myself - its easier than installing a
hard drive. Is that true? If so, any suggestions on what / where I should
buy (mail order is preferable)? Do I need anything else, like a
new controller, or something (can I tell if I have a controller already
in my system?) Any help would be appreciated.

I am using a MicroSoft Mouse (Bus version, not an InPort mouse), to collect
reaction time data in an experiment. I am using hardware interrupt to detect
a button press which runs an ISR to get the time from a MetraByte Counter/Timer
card. The problem is, the interrupt rate for the mouse is so slow that I have
only a 30ms resolution. Is there a way of increasing the interrupt rate for
this mouse?

You can do this for a MSoft InPort mouse by using a command line switch /R4
while loading mouse.sys; this sets the interrupt rate to 200Hz (once every
5ms).

I would appreciate any suggestions from the netters.

Thanks,

Baskaran.
