I've got a pretty nice video setup on my machine at work, but I'm
looking for some alternatives. Currently I have a Paradise 8514/A with
a NEC MultiSync 4D monitor. This would be fine if I never had to
switch video modes. As it is, since I'm using OS/2, I tend to switch
from the PM graphics (8514/A) screen to full-screen sessions (VGA)
quite often. The problem is that when I do switch modes, I have to
wait up to about a second and a half for the MultiSync monitor to
produce a stable image. This gets to be a bit annoying.
I'm looking for alternatives. One solution would be to find a monitor
similar to IBM's 8514 monitor, except that unlike the 8514, it must
handle non-interlaced 1024x768 video, preferrably at a 70Hz refresh
rate (interlaced video and flourescent lights don't mix well). As far
as I know, the IBM 8514 monitor is not a multi-sync monitor. It
appears to handle a small number of fixed frequencies (8514/A and VGA,
in particular). There is minimum of visual disruption when it switches
modes. As for screen size, I'm looking for something no smaller than
the 16 inches diagonal which I have now.
So, does anyone know of monitors which will fit the bill? I'd also be
interested in hearing about any other video adapters that do
1024x768x256 non-interlaced video and have OS/2 device drivers
available.
