Any ideas? > A friend of mine who is a technician told me that the problems with SEAGATE hard drive is that Seagate will resurface the platters up to 7 times to get the smoothness required to pass the specification tests. With up to 7 layers of film on the platter the drive may stick to the magnetic substrate when the drive is turned off. What happens is the drive does not have enough power to "UNSTICK" the head from the Substrate. Your idea about turning the drive manually simply unsticks the drive and it will work again, until you turn it off and it sticks again. Some solutions to the problem: 1. Leave the computer on 2. Send the drive to a clean room for repairs 3. Sell the drive, and buy a new one. :) Costs for clean rooms depend on the type and size of the drive. So if you plan on sending it to one, check around and get the best price and the best warranty. typicaly the warranty for a rebuild drive is anywhere from 30 days to 1 year. I hope this helps. Has anyone found a fix for the sticking Seagate problem. I have a 251-1 that sometimes will not spin up when the system is turned on. Removing the drive and manually spinning usually makes it work for a while. I have read much about this problem but have not seen a solution. Many moons ago I tested mini-winnies, and an occaisional problem was a dragging brake [ to stop the drive on power-down ].
