[net.ham-radio] Help with Bearcat 100 Scanner

DPHARP01%ULKYVX.BITNET@WISCVM.WISC.EDU (03/11/86)

I own a plain-vanilla Bearcat 100 (not 100xl) and have had it
for quite some time now with no real major problems. However, I live
real close to our local airport and wouldn't mind receiving the
aircraft bands. Has anyone had any luck in possibly altering the
scanner to cover these bands? I've seen the ads for downconversion
boxes, but didn't want to invest that kind of money. Please
understand that I have no idea how difficult this may be, but if it
can or can't be done I wouldn't mind learning more about the scanner
internals....

Thanks in advance,

One problem is that aviation radio is AM not FM like nearly everything
else that the scanner handles.
