BETUMIC1 is your friends host mainframe APPC network name. It is used on
IBM's internal IQNET(?).  

There are several IBM listings in my hosts file the most promising is
IBM.COM INet address 129.33.102.1

You could mail to root or opr at this address and ask for information on
how to exchange E-Mail with your friend.

If you need more help, E-Mail to me, I will check with my IBM connections 
for the info
