Hi all, I'm normally a Sun/Unix type developer, but I've recently acquired a true blue IBM AT 5170 for home use & it's got me a bit confused (no I didn't pay much for this dinosaur either). It has an internal 20Meg hard disk & I didn't have the installation instructions when I started playing, so in the SETUP program where it asked for disk # (1-15) I sort of guessed and entered 6, which seemed to work just fine. Now after reading my docs, I see I should have used #2. When I go back & try to re-init the CMOS, it refuses to recognize the hard disk as #2, but setting it to #6 still works just fine. Should I be concerned ? Now the big question, I've also got a Seagate ST-251 40 Meg drive that I was hoping to add as a second disk. I've tried every variation I can think of and whatever I do, the controller refuses to recognize it. (Ditto on using Disk Manager to config it). Is this just hopeless incompatibility ? Any suggestions ? (Yeah I know go out & buy a real computer). Thanks in advance for any help. You may respond to my e-mail address or leave me a message at the office phone (don't be surprised if I can't call back for a couple of days). Brad Albom Software Engineering Solutions, Inc P. O.
