Hello, We have several 386 PCs of various pedigrees (Compaq, Zenith, Northgate). All of them have Weitek 3167 Numeric Coprocessors. We have been having difficulties getting the chips in their sockets - they are in and work but may not be seated fully, and occasionally we get errors that seem to be due to some pins losing contact with the sockets. Apparently with 121 pins a lot of force is necessary to seat them. (Enough force that we have been worried about breaking the motherboards.) Has anyone had any experience with installing these chips? Is there a special method or tool that gives good results? Any replies (via e-mail or a followup post, if interest warrants) would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Bill Kath ----------------------- kath@delta.eecs.nwu.edu Engineering Sciences and Applied Mathematics McCormick School of Engineering, Northwestern University
