A way for a new business to accept a credit card is to go to
a cooperative merchant and use his merhant ID.

I've been to many computer shows where merchants shared
a credit card merchant ID and machine.
This is how the mom and pop tables can compete with the stores.

How about all those times the receipt shows an unfamiliar name?
(ex: buy clothes at Joe's House of Polyester and the bill
is from Dave's House of Tweed).
Some stores form cooperatives for this.

Haven't you heard the stories about the hookers that accept credit cards?
They get the cooperation of a legitimite merchant, and charge their
services as anything they like, such as "VCR head cleaning".
