When I was about 7, casting about for something to read, my father said, "Go up in the attic and find the box of old PE's and bring it here. See the "Carl & Jerry" stories? Read them." So I did. At first I didn't understand the electronics part, but they were fun stories anyway (at least the early ones; the later (college era) stories tended to be about yucky girls). After I had gone through the entire batch (ten years' worth) I was starting to understand some of the electronics part, so I read them again. And again. Then I started reading the Carl Kohler stories, Transistor Topics, and what have you. Then I started reading the whole magazines. And again. And again. I learned an awful lot that way, which served me in good stead at MIT and continues to serve me now. Does anyone know where John T. Frye is now? Did he ever publish anything other than Carl & Jerry?
