I recently posted an article requesting info on reading data from the parallel port. I recieved some informative replies which I will summarize. However most of the info was valid for cards based on the 74 series logic. As my card is not of this type I have not looked to deeply into the info I am presenting. * Five control lines can be used as input lines. * The 8 output data lines can be used for input as well if a hardware mod is performed (see the most recent PC digest for more info). The direction of the data can then be controlled by bit 5 of the control register. The card that I have is called a B-2010 IO card but has no manufacturer info. It is from a clone (Elonex) so I expect there will be a few of them about. It supports two serial and two parallel ports. It appears to be based on a PIA/UART chip labelled "CIC83747AZ 8828". Does any one know if this chip can be programmed to act like a modified parallel card as I mentioned above ? Thanks, Henry.
