I just read about the 80287XL coming out in the Nanobytes section of BYTE. Supposedly it offers twice the throughput of the normal 80287. The timing of this announcement seems to be a suspicious coincidence with AMD being able to offer 80287's at bargain prices with real Intel microcode in them. So do AMD and Intel expect the 80287XL to be the coprocessor of choice in the next 6 months? Will the $99 80287-10 I just bought be gotten for $50 next year? Sigh. BTW, the 80287-10 from AMD has worked flawlessly in my Suntac 12Mhz motherboard. I was also impressed by the amount of documentation that came with the chip, including a demo disk to show off the performance boost of using the coprocessor. David Yon CASE Consultant
