I have a PC-AT Clone running at a 12 mHz clock speed. It drops to 8 mHz during floppy I/O. Try as I might, it will not allow me to read either 720K or 1.44 mb 3.5" floppies. I started out with an OMTI RLL controller (model 8247), then tried a WD1006V-SR2 controller. Neither worked. Calls to tech support at both Mitsubishi in Los Angeles, and to Western Digital in Irvine, Ca. bore no results. The particular 1.44 mb floppy drive I have is a Mitsubishi MF355B-82UF. It works just fine when attached to an XT 1.44/1.2/360 controller, but not with a the above-noted controllers. It also works just fine WITH either the WD or OMTI 16-bit RLL controllers when being used with Fastback 2.09 for either backups or restores of 1.44 mb or 720 kb 3.5" floppies. Mitsubishi tech support (Andrew) said to change two jumpers under the drive: one should be on SW, another on DC. This was done. No change. Error messages from DOS 4.1 are as follows: "General failure of floppy drive A"; and "Sector not found", and it will NOT boot at all when used as drive A. This has been an excellent drive, but just doesn't seem to like my AT and controllers. The AT is running on an Award 3.03 BIOS. Any suggestions to get it working would be very much appreciated. --- Internet: sp@questor.wimsey.bc.ca | POST: 1027 Davie Street, Box 486 Phones: Voice/FAX: +1 604 682-6659 | Vancouver, British Columbia Data/BBS: +1 604 681-0670 | Canada V6E 4L2
